Almacita di Desolato Theater Show
Almacita di Desolato is a 75-minute music-theatre production inspired by the iconic Curaçaoan film by Felix de Rooy and Norman de Palm. The performance brings together contemporary dance by Junadry Leocaria, the enchanting voice of Izaline Calister, new compositions by Thijs Borsten, and the traditional, award-winning sound of Russell Soleana and his band Issoco. The result is a magical story deeply rooted in Curaçaoan folklore, with Muzik di Zumbi—a unique musical tradition from the slavery era that Soleana helped bring to international attention—at its core.
The production tells the mythical journey of Solem, the priestess from the village of Desolato, who, after a forbidden pregnancy, is confronted with supernatural forces and the evil known as Alma Sola. Together with the boy Lucio and her daughter Almacita, she navigates a path of struggle, sacrifice, and spiritual redemption. With this rich blend of tradition, music, dance, and imagination, the creators present a tribute to Curaçao’s cultural heritage—an evening you won’t want to miss.
