Almacita di Desolato returns as an enchanting music-theatre production based on the iconic Curaçaoan film by Felix de Rooy and Norman de Palm. With contemporary dance by Junadry Leocaria, new compositions by Thijs Borsten, the warm voice of Izaline Calister, and the traditional sounds of Russell Soleana, an ancient myth comes back to life. The performance creates a magical atmosphere deeply rooted in Afro-Curaçaoan culture and musical traditions.

The story follows Solem, the priestess who guards the well-being of her village, and her young guide Lucio. When Solem cares for a stranger and is seduced, she becomes unlawfully pregnant. The journey that follows—filled with trials, spirits, and supernatural forces—ends in a confrontation between good and evil, centered on sacrifice and purification. This myth, known from the original film, forms the heart of the production and offers the audience a profound glimpse into Curaçao’s spiritual traditions.

The creative collaboration between Izaline Calister, Thijs Borsten, Russell Soleana, and Junadry Leocaria blends traditional Muzik di Zumbi with modern performing arts. Soleana’s iconic instruments and rhythms, Calister’s cultural depth, Borsten’s innovative compositions, and Leocaria’s contemporary choreography merge into a powerful multidisciplinary experience. The result is a performance that honors Curaçaoan heritage, inspires new generations, and gives a unique voice to a timeless story.
