The Department of Urban Planning (ROP) of the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning launched a website to provide information about monumental buildings in Curacao. Our island is dotted with beautiful colonial buildings. The condition of the buildings is quite different. Some have been restored and others are complete ruinens. It's nice to see how many of these buildings have been saved from total destruction and given new life. Willemstad is undergoing a complete revival as restaurants, shops, offices and inhabitants are moving back in this area.
The website contains information about the restoration of monumental buildings, legislation in this area and protection of our heritage. The site lists all relevant agencies and organizations involved in the conservation of these structures. Unesco, an umbrella organozation that analyzes and supports the conservation of world heritage, registered Willemstad as an important area in 1997. This indicates Willemstad as a unique area in the world of historical value that should be preserved for future generations. There is also a page dedicated to all the listed properties on the list. You can look up all properties on a map.
