Sandels Resorts opened its new location Sandals Royal Curacao last week. It stands on an enchantingly beautiful coastal strip of almost 18 hectares on the charming Santa Barbara estate of 1215 hectares. This all inclusive resort has 351 rooms with a great view over the enrance of Spanish Water Bay and Caribbean ocean. This 5-star accommodation is located directly on a beautiful beach "Barbara Beach". Furthermore, the resort has 2 large swimming pools and a 18-hole Pete Dye championship golf course behind the resort. For the lovers of exclusivity, Sandals offers Seaside Butler Bungalows with a private pool right on the sea. The opening marks the ninth island destination for the brand in the Caribbean.
The organization behind Sandels has been working hard for months on the realization of this unique resort. The resort is not new. The project intails a complete renovation of all rooms, pools, garden and restaurants. In 2010, the Hyatt resort opened a branch at this location called Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa and Marina". Hyatt left in 2012 after which a new holding company took over the resort. This new luxury resort was called "Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort" and existed until 2020. The Santa Barbara Beach Resort was forced to close its doors in June 2020 after facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
